Brightspeed Internet: Complete Guide

Updated September 2026 · By the Internet Cable TV Offers team

Brightspeed took over the local networks of CenturyLink in 20 states in 2022 and has been building fiber ever since. For many rural and suburban households, Brightspeed is the first real chance at gig-speed internet. This guide covers Brightspeed Fiber plans, pricing, coverage and what to expect.

What is Brightspeed internet?

Brightspeed is a newer internet provider with a long history: its network previously belonged to CenturyLink. The company is investing heavily in fiber-to-the-home, replacing copper lines so customers get faster, more reliable service. Where fiber isn't available yet, Brightspeed continues to offer DSL internet.

Brightspeed Fiber plans come with unlimited data, a Wi-Fi router and no annual contract, which keeps things simple for households that just want dependable internet at a fair price.

Brightspeed Fiber plans

Brightspeed offers three fiber tiers. Pricing and availability depend on your address.

Fiber 200 — $29.99/mo

Up to 200 Mbps, enough for streaming, browsing and video calls for a small household.

Fiber 500 — $59.99/mo

Up to 500 Mbps. The best fit for families who stream, game and work from home at the same time.

Fiber Gig — $79.99/mo

Up to 1000 Mbps for heavy streaming, online gaming, remote work and large downloads.

Choosing the right Brightspeed plan

Think about how many people and devices use the internet at once. One or two people who mostly browse and stream are well served by Fiber 200. Families with several streamers, gamers or remote workers should look at Fiber 500. If your household downloads large files, streams 4K on multiple TVs or runs a home office, Fiber Gig removes bottlenecks.

Why choose Brightspeed?

Brightspeed's biggest advantage is fiber in places that rarely get it. Fiber keeps its speed at peak times and offers upload speeds that match downloads.

  • 100% fiber on fiber plans
  • Unlimited data
  • No annual contract
  • Wi-Fi router included
  • Local focus on rural and suburban communities

Brightspeed coverage

Brightspeed serves parts of 20 states, including North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, Missouri, Alabama and Tennessee, with a focus on small towns and suburbs. The fiber footprint grows every month, so an address that only had DSL last year may qualify for fiber today.

Brightspeed's fiber build: over 3 million locations

In April 2026, Brightspeed announced it had passed 3 million fiber-enabled homes and businesses across its 20-state footprint, its second year in a row of building more than 1 million new fiber locations. The company's goal is to bring fiber to more than 5 million locations.

Progress varies by state. By spring 2026, Brightspeed's Indiana fiber build was about 75 percent complete, with nearly 200,000 residents able to order fiber, and its Virginia build was about 60 percent complete, reaching nearly 122,000 families and businesses.

Why Brightspeed matters for rural and suburban homes

Brightspeed focuses on the small towns and suburbs that national cable companies have often skipped. For many of these communities, Brightspeed Fiber is the first chance at symmetrical, gig-class internet, replacing DSL service that struggled with streaming, video calls and multiple devices. If you've been waiting for a real upgrade, Brightspeed's rapid build-out means it may now be available at your address.

Is Brightspeed good for streaming and gaming?

Brightspeed Fiber provides the low latency and consistent speeds that gamers and streamers need, with unlimited data so there's no worry about overages. Fiber 500 is a great all-round choice for families, while Fiber Gig suits heavy gamers and households with multiple 4K TVs.

Customers on Brightspeed DSL will see slower speeds, which work well for browsing and HD streaming on a few devices but can struggle with 4K and competitive gaming. That's why upgrading to fiber is worth checking as soon as it reaches your street.
